Unlock your Sharp GX29
The Sharp GX29 is a compact and lightweight clamshell phone that includes Bluetooth support and a USB connection for exchanging data with a PC. You may have purchased it with a two-year contract, which means that you will not be able to use it when you are out of the country or in the event that you want to switch networks. You will want to unlock the phone if you intend to do either.
Instructions
1. Find a website that has unlock codes for a Sharp GX29. A few to try are GlobalUnlock, GSMLiberty and UnlockToTalk. Each site sells codes that unlock cell phones for a fee.
2. Dial *#06# into the keypad on your Sharp GX29 to bring up a 15-digit code known as your IMEI (international mobile equipment identification code). This is similar to a serial number that is used to identify your phone.
3. Enter the IMEI number into the website that you have chosen to purchase codes from. Then go to the drop-down boxes and select your make as Sharp and the model as GX29. In the next boxes, you will choose your country and mobile service provider. Click "Submit" and enter payment details and a valid email address on the next page. Click "Buy Codes."
4. Check your email in the next day or two. The unlock codes should arrive in your inbox.
5. Turn the power off on your Sharp phone and remove the battery and the SIM card (subscriber identity module). Replace it with a SIM from a different network. You can usually purchase one at a convenience store or borrow one from someone else's phone. Replace the battery and turn the phone back on. At that time, the phone will indicate that you are on the wrong network and will ask for an unlock code.
6. Enter the unlock code exactly as it appears in your email message. Wait a few seconds. The phone will restart itself and when it comes back on, your Sharp GX29 will be unlocked. You can tell that the procedure was successful by looking at the top of the screen, where the name of the new network will appear.
