The Nokia N97 is a touchscreen smartphone released in 2009. Although it's highly desirable, sporting a 5-megapixel camera, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and 32GB of built-in memory, it is not available to purchase through AT&T. It does operate on the GSM network, however, which means that there is a way to use it on AT&T, through a method called unlocking. By negating the N97's SIM lock, you'll be free to use the N97 on any GSM network of your choosing, including AT&T.
Instructions
1. Navigate to your Nokia N97's home screen and type "*#06#" into the keypad to reveal your IMEI number.
2. Contact your service provider to obtain an unlock code. Be prepared to give the customer service representative your name, email address, mobile number and IMEI number. If the representative refuses to give you an unlock code, you can purchase one from a remote unlocking site, such as mobileunlocksolutions.com, foneszone.co.uk or mobile2mobile.net.
3. Turn off your Nokia N97 and remove its SIM card (located beneath the battery). Replace the battery and turn the phone back on with no SIM card installed in it.
4. Enter "#pw+unlock code+1#," where "unlock code" represents the unlock code you received in Step 3. Press the "*" button twice to get the "+" symbol, press the "*" button three times to get the letter "p," and press the "*" button four times to get the letter "w." Your screen should now say "SIM Restriction Off."
5. Turn off your phone and remove the battery. Insert your AT&T SIM card and power the phone back on. You're now ready to make calls on the AT&T network with your N97 phone.
