Reformat An Sd Card For A Phone

There are two simple ways to reformat an SD card for use in your cell phone.

Secure Digital (SD) cards are a popular way to store and access photos, music and video files on cell phones, but they can become corrupted or encounter other errors that prevent them from working. Whether you are experiencing problems or your card was never properly formatted, you can reformat your SD card from your phone or any computer with an SD card reader.

Instructions

Through an SD Card Reader

1. Insert your SD card into the computer's card reader.

2. Click "Start" (or the "Windows" logo in Vista and Windows 7) and click "Computer" or "My Computer."

3. Right-click your SD card under "Devices With Removable Storage" and select "Format." Choose "FAT" (or "FAT16" if given the option) and click "Start." When the formatting is finished, click "Safely Remove Hardware" in the desktop taskbar and choose your SD card. Eject the card when prompted. It is now formatted for your phone.

From Your Phone

4. Insert your SD card into your cell phone's memory card slot.

5. Access the "Settings" or "Settings and Tools" option in your cell phone and select "Memory."

6. Choose "Memory Card" and select "Format." You can now add files on your card for use in your cell phone.
