Find The Unlock Code For A Motorola Razr P2k

Unlock your Motorola RAZR

The Motorola RAZR came out in 2004 and was one of the first ultra-thin phones that had a sleek design while still being functional. If you have one, you may have purchased it with a two-year plan, which means it may have been locked by your mobile service provider. If so, it is likely locked, so you won't be able to switch to a different cell phone service. If you would like to change companies, you will need to unlock it.

Instructions

1. Find the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number for your Motorola RAZR by dialing "*#06#" on your phone's keypad (without quotes). This is a 15- to 17-digit code that your mobile service uses to identify your phone. Another way to find the number is to remove the battery and find the sticker beneath it with the IMEI number.

2. Find an unlock code for your phone. There are some services that provide codes specifically for Motorolas; some of these include MotorolaUnlock, MotoUnlockNow and GlobalUnlock.com. As of 2010, most of these services charge between $9.99 and $29.99 for an unlock code.

3. Key in your phone's IMEI number in the drop-down box on the website. Enter "Motorola" for the make of the phone and "RAZR P2k" for the model of the phone, along with your country of residence and your mobile phone's carrier. You will also need to enter a valid email address and payment details. Most services take PayPal or a credit card.

4. Log in to your email and retrieve the unlock code. It usually arrives within 48 hours.

5. Turn off your phone and remove the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card by sliding the back cover off and removing the battery. Take out the white rectangular card in the metal gate. This is where the phone's memory is kept.

6. Put in a SIM card from a different carrier than the one that you currently use. If you do not have one, borrow one from a friend or purchase a prepaid card from a convenience store.

7. Put the battery back in and turn on your phone. Your Motorola will ask you for a "Subsidy Code." Key in the unlock code that you received in the email into the phone's key pad, exactly as you see it. Do not add any spaces. You will get a message that says "SIM Restriction Off," which means the phone is now unlocked.
