Reflash An N800

One incorrect step can cause your Nokia N800 to become a brick. Reflashing is a process of updating new software to the pre-installed firmware. Firmware is the operating system of the cellular device. Sometimes your N800 needs to be reflashed if it is being unlocked to be used on another carrier or if there are signal or other technical issues with the phone and needs to be updated. Make sure you follow directions carefully and know what you're doing when reflashing a phone to prevent damage.

Instructions

1. Download the latest version of Flasher, which is a software that allows you to reflash the N800 (see Resources).

2. Download the newest firmware for your location and save it to the Flasher 3.5 folder, which is located in your program files and Windows (see Resources). You will need to remove the battery from your Nokia N800 and input the 15 numbers separated by two slash marks to download the proper software for your location.

3. Turn off the N800 and run the flasher from your "Start" menu. Press and hold the "u" on the Nokia keyboard while connecting your USB cable to the device. Keep the "u" key pressed until Windows completes installing a new driver for the Nokia. Type in the firmware name you would like to re-flash your n900 with. (For example, RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin). The program will reflash the device. Do not disconnect the N800.
