The Nokia 5310 does not need to be connected to a computer to install an update.

Instructions
1. Press the "Menu" key, then select the "Settings" folder.
2. Scroll down and select "Phone."
3. Select "Phone Updates," then "Downl. Phone Softw" from the options. Follow the prompts to properly download and install software updates for the Nokia 5310.
4. Wait for the installation to complete, then remove the battery for one minute. Replace the battery and turn the phone on.
