Replace The Housing For A Tmobile Wing

You can replace a smartphone housing.

The T-Mobile Wing is a pocket PC smartphone that comes equipped with a variety of high-tech features, including a touchscreen user interface. While this is a modern and sleek design, it can present problems if you want to customize your phone. For example, many people like to remove the front and rear housing on their Wings in order to replace them with ones of a different color or design. The sensitive nature of your Wing's touchscreen makes it difficult to replace this housing, but it is possible.

Instructions

1. Turn your T-Mobile Wing face down and remove the stylus (small plastic pen-like tool) from its compartment at the top of the phone. Remove the back cover by pressing it down and sliding it away from the phone, then lift the square battery out of its compartment.

2. Use your small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws on each corner of the interior of the phone. Remove the interior plastic case by gently prying it up with your fingers at the seams. The green circuit board will be exposed.

3. Remove the single screw on the corner of the green circuit board and disconnect the orange ribbon cable in the opposite corner that runs to the keyboard of the Wing. This can easily be unplugged with your finger.

4. Pry the green circuit board away from the back of the phone, but don't pull too far because it is still connected by a ribbon. Remove the single remaining ribbon connecting the circuit board to the LCD screen by unplugging it. Remove the circuit board completely to reveal the rear metal screen assembly.

5. Remove each of the screws on the sides of the screen assembly, using your small Phillips screwdriver. Unsnap the back screen assembly from the phone by gently pulling it away from the phone at the seam. All that will be left is the front housing, LCD screen and keypad.

6. Unscrew the two screws on the back of the keypad that secure it to the housing. Remove the keypad from the housing.

7. Disconnect the single ribbon connector from the back of the LCD. Remove the LCD and you will now be left with only the housing. Replace with the new housing (available from your T-Mobile dealer or online) and reassemble the components, reversing the order in which you took them apart.
