Troubleshoot A Nokia 8801

The screen of the Nokia 8801 slides up to reveal the keypad.

As the first smart phone to stream music via Bluetooth, Nokia designed the 8801 as a stylish and modern device with extended features. The exterior casing is stainless steel, and the full-color screen slides up to reveal the keypad. Extended features include a voice recorder for recording audio notes, FM radio and 64 ring tones created by Ryuichi Sakamoto. The device also comes with standard smart phone features such as wireless Internet browsing, email and multimedia messages. If your phone is not working properly, try some basic troubleshooting before sending it to your local Nokia store for repair.

Instructions

1. Press and hold the "Power" button located on top of your phone to turn it off. Turn the phone over and grip it in one hand, pushing down on the side "Release" buttons. With your free hand, place your thumb on the indention and slide the back cover down, exposing the battery.

2. Unlock the battery by turning the lock tab to the left, then lift the battery out of the compartment, bottom end first. Wait for a minute and reinsert the battery by aligning the gold contact points and inserting the top end first. This will solve connectivity, power or charging problems.

3. Turn the battery lock to the right to secure it and replace the back cover. Push the "Power" button to turn your phone on.

4. Press the "Menu" key and then click on "Settings" to reset the settings on your Nokia 8801. Scroll to "Restore Factory Settings" and click it. Type in your security code if prompted.

5. Check your signal strength if you cannot make or receive phone calls. Look at the indicator bar on the left side of the phone's screen in standby mode. If the bar is low, move closer to a window and leave areas such as garages or elevators. Call your service provider if you are still experiencing low signal strength or dropped calls.

6. Delete some of your messages if you cannot receive texts or voice mail. Messages will not go through if you have a full inbox.

7. Update the software on your phone from the Nokia website if you cannot browse the Internet or play multimedia messages. Some applications and features require the latest software version.
