Get Bluetooth On A Pc

A Bluetooth adapter in the right USB port.

Having Bluetooth wireless capabilities on your computer is a great benefit as more and more Bluetooth-enabled devices are coming out all the time. Cell phones, digital cameras, and keyboards and mice can sync fully with your computer via Bluetooth connection. Most newer desktop and laptop computers come with built-in Bluetooth wireless. However, if you have an older computer or a computer that does not, you can add it. It is a very simple process.

Instructions

1. Connect a Bluetooth wireless adapter to a USB port on your computer. If you do not have an available USB port, buy a USB hub, which allows you to expand your USB ports.

2. Choose and purchase a compatible Bluetooth USB adapter. Bluetooth USB adapters are available on many online sites, such as Amazon.com, Newegg.com and TigerDirect.com. They average about $15 on Amazon (as of September 2009). Check the system requirements before buying to ensure the Bluetooth USB adapter will work with your computer.

3. Install the software that is bundled with your Bluetooth USB adapter. The software has an application to use the adapter as well as the drivers for the device. The drivers allow your computer to recognize the Bluetooth device once it is plugged in.

4. Insert the Bluetooth USB adapter into an available USB slot on your computer. Your computer should automatically recognize the device, since you already installed the drivers.

5. Test the Bluetooth on your computer. Any cell phone works great for this. Simply try syncing your cell phone with the computer. First, ensure the Bluetooth is enabled on your computer. Double-check by using the software that came with your Bluetooth USB adapter. It allows you to enable Bluetooth within that software. Cell phones have different menus and interfaces. However, for most cell phones, simply navigate to the settings menu and scroll down to the Bluetooth menu. Select it and turn Bluetooth on from there. Your computer will say "Bluetooth device paired" or something similar if the device worked.
