Reinstall Software That Came On A New Computer

Accidentally or premature deletion of needed computer programs can prove troublesome, but there is always a method to recover your lost utilities. Many newer computers are shipped with a "Restore Disk"--a CD containing all of the original factory programs that were on your new computer. Even if you have lost or misplaced your current Restore Disk, most manufacturers are willing to ship you a replacement for a nominal fee.

Instructions

1. Contact your computer manufacturer's service center and speak with a customer-service representative if you have lost your Restore Disk. Provide the rep with the make and model of your computer or your account information and he or she will be able to ascertain exactly what disk you need to reinstall the programs that shipped with your computer.

2. Insert the disk into your PC. The disk should automatically detect, displaying options for the restore or reinstallation of various programs on your machine. If it does not, manually start the disk by navigating to the "My Computer" page, then to your CD drive (normally the D drive), then to the file on the disk that says "Setup.exe."

3. Select the program that you wish to restore. You will be able to restore individual programs or the entire package of shipped software. This will trigger the automated reinstallation process, so the only thing left for you to do is to sit back and wait. The reinstall should take anywhere from five to 20 minutes, depending on the size of the program(s) and the speed of your machine.
