Reinstall The Symbian Os

Reset the Symbian OS if it begins to malfunction.

Functioning on a read-only memory platform, the Symbian mobile phone operating system (OS) operates differently from the software installed on your computer. Although you cannot technically "reinstall" it, the Symbian OS has the built-in ability to "reset" itself. You can reset your system in three ways: the "soft reset," the "hard reset" and the "deep reset." While a "Soft Reset" will retain basic system preferences, the "Hard Reset" will reformat the operating system and delete any third-party applications. Only perform the "The Deep Reset," which restores the manufacturer's settings, if your device is operating without a display. As with any reinstallation process, back up all of your data to an external source before completing the process.

Instructions

Soft Reset

1. Put your phone in "Standby" mode. (Instructions for putting a phone in standby will vary by phone model; consult your owner's manual or contact your carrier for instructions particular to your phone.)

2. Type "*#7780#" into the keypad. Your device will inform you that it is performing a reset.

3. Type your security code when prompted. If you do not have a security code, type "12345" as the security code. If your device does not accept "12345," type "000000."

Hard Reset

4. Plug your phone into a power source.

5. Put your phone in "Standby" mode.

6. Type "*#7370#" into your keypad. The device will inform you that you are performing a reset.

7. Type your security code when the device requests it. If you do not have one, simply type "12345" or "000000."

Deep Reset

8. Plug your phone into a power source.

9. Switch your device off and simultaneously press and hold down the green key and the star key while holding the power button. The phone will notify you that it is performing a complete reformatting.

10. Turn your phone back on when the device has finished the reset process.
